You’ll be taken to the best eateries and restaurants the area has to offer where the chefs will amaze you with delicious dishes coupled with delightful wines. This quiant little town in Lake Como is renowned for its Lungolago (lakeside) offering amazing views of the castle placed on the shores opposite, and in addition views of the Alps. After a noroushing lunch, we will prepare our bikes for an opening ride or “sgambatella” – an Italian colloquialism – to ready our legs for the days ahead. From Arona’s centre, we’ll ride on tranquil roads through this beautiful region of northern Italy famous for its unparalleled natural beauty.
We’ll pause at one of the area’s well-known enotecas to salute the week ahead. Returning to the hotel we’ll prepare for a gourmet meal at one of the area’s premier restaurants.
After a relaxed Italian morning bite, we’ll embark on another incredible bike trip with stunning views of Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta and the majestic Alps.
We’ll ride alongside Lake Maggiore’s shore before engaging a gentle 6.5% 6km slope to Calogna, a quaint town nestled amongst green hills. We’ll pedal downwards to Omegna, a lovely tiny village on Lake Orta’s northern shore, Lake Orta being a little lake where romance, beauty, mysticism and art blend.
Here we’ll pause for some lunch at Omegna’s finest trattoria where we’ll view the stunning and eloquent Island of St. Jules. Back at our bikes we’ll pedal quiet roads through the pretty village of Oleggio Castello before returning to Arona.
A nutritious breakfast sets us up for a challenging bike trip to discover some of the world’s most magnetic mountainous scenery.
We’ll cycle the flatland to the enchanting town of Stresa renowned for its the promenade on the waterfront offering magnificent mountain views and views of the awe-inspiring Borromean Islands. Continuing our ride we climb the Mottarone, to marvel at the matchless outlook of all seven lakes in this charming area of Italy.
We’ll break, then zoom downwards for 16 km along a remarkable provincial road with a final glorious private segment called Borromea, a 14th century road. On return to Arona a soothing post-cycle massage will be enjoyed before a first-class dinner.
Today we ride some of Italy’s most scenic roads, with unbelievable views of the sparkling blue waters of the lakes and of the grand Alps. Riding on the edges of Lake Comabbio and Lake Varese, we’ll encounter a collection of gentle uphills and downhills submerged in a wondrous landscape with flourishing vegetation.
We’ll ascend a challenging 7 km climb with an average of 7%, arriving at the Alpe Del Tedesco, where we will lunch on traditional home-cooked dishes. Going downhill we’ll meet the amaing Lake Lugano, where we’ll pause at Ponte Tresa that borders with Switzerland.
On return to our hotel we’ll relax and enjoy a post-cycle massage. Prior to a delicious dinner, we’ll sample an aperitivo to celebrate the day.
After another traditional breakfast, we’ll journey via the superb Muggio Valley in Switzerland, cycling past woodlands of chestnuts, wildflower meadows and watermills, reaching Lake Como’s stylish western shores lined with exquisite neo-classical villas.
We’ll cycle via Bellagio, a pretty town and one of Lake Como’s major attractions, as is wonderful Varenna, with its narrow bending streets, a must-see.
We’ll have a traditional lunch before making our way to Santini’s headquarters where we will enjoy a private tour of the Santini cyclingwear factory and headquarters. We’ll finish our day in exclusive Cernobbio, a world-famous lakefront town, where we will enjoy an exceptional dining experience.
A fine breakfast will prepare us for the cycling tour’s most challenging cycle. Departing Como we will experience a number of gentle ascents and descents while cycling on serene country roads and green lands.
Then on to today’s main ascent which is the world-renowned Passo Del Ghisallo, a 10 km route of which 4 km is between 8% and 10%. At the top we’ll pay a visit to the acclaimed Madonna del Ghisallo church prior to stopping at Castellania’s Fausto Coppi cycling museum.
At the most well-known local trattoria, chefs local to the area will blow us over with their customary dishes. The afternoon will be free for us to relax and sight-see before gathering for a dining experience to celebrate this exceptional holiday.
After our last breakfast, our guides will say their farewells before delivering you to your leaving point for your onward journey.
