Cinque Terre Bike Tour – Overview

On this magnificent cycling tour we will ride along stunning routes with charming scenes that form a landscape of natural wonder and architecture. We will find Tuscany, Cinque Terre and Liguria in all their splendour combining history, natural beauty and local customs. We’ll sample delicious Italian recipes and savour exquisite wines at first-class restaurants, all set in one of the most alluring Italian rivieras.
Our local and skilled bi-lingual team will show you secluded artistic gems not seen by many in this region. You will relax and revive in a stunning environment.

You will be greeted by our team at Pisa International Airport and transported to your Lucca accommodation.
After a revitalizing lunch, we will make the necessary bike adjustments and embark on a preparation bike trip – or “sgambatella” (an Italian colloquialism) – to ease us into the week to come. Lucca’s scenic hills, surrounded by old olive groves and wine acreages, are a short ride from the centre.

We will stop at a well-loved enoteca and salute the spectacular cycling tour to come with an aperitivo. On return to your hotel, we’ll prepare for a 5 star dinner at a first-class restaurant in the historical centre.

Today we head to Forte dei Marmi. The intial 12 km are fairly flat and then we tackle the first elevations at Piazzano. We will glide downwards across Freddana Valley to Monteggiori where we will absorb the splendid views of the Mediterranean Sea, and capture photographs.

After an easy descent, we will cycle flat scenic roads to the charming small town of Pietrasanta, famous for its marble and bronze artisans, sculptures and workshops. Here will be the start of a strenuous climb to Capriglia, a beautiful village where we will pause to admire the ultramarine sea and the Ligurian Gulf.

We will treasure the captivating descent offering unending coastal views before journeying to Forte de Marmi where we will be rewarded with a local homecooked lunch and a rejuvenating post cycle massage by one of our professional therapists.
The afternoon will be for relexation prior to an excellent dinner.

After a typical Italian breakfast, we will get started on another magnificant bike trip viewing the awe-inspiring coast and stunning Appennines. We will take on an easy slope to Fosdinovo, a small ancient hamlet 20 km from Carrara and the marble quarries. Here we will view the incredible and renowned castle before cycling downwards to Sarzana.

We will continue on the flat roads before a short ascent leading to Monte Marcello and the spectacular Gulf of Poets. Continuing down the enlivening ride to Lerici, we will cycle the remaining 25 km flat to Portovenere, an beautiful Ligurian coastal gem. Here we will admire San Pietro’s Church, a small Gothic structure that offers amazing views of Portovenere.

Post lunch at our most-liked restaurant, there will be time for ourselves before re-gathering for another delightful Italian dinner.

A nutritious breakfast will set us up for an ambitious ride leading us to Riomaggiore, Menarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso – the 5 fishing hamlets that form the Cinque Terre, the most emblematic feature of the Italian Riviera.

We’ll encounter a number of gentle inclinations and descents along the sensational rocky coastline that encompasses ancient authentic villages with their remote feel – this portion of the ride will reveal an array of natural delight, unblemished by time.
We’ll cycle on beautiful trails that will take us to striking getaways off the beaten track, an enlightening experience. Then a stop at our favourite restaurant to taste a delightful meal.

On the road again, we will continue along this unforgettable coastline. Once back in Monterosso at our hotel, we’ll relax prior to partaking in another evening gastronomic delight.

Today, we will ride on some of Europe’s most stunning roads with unbelieavable vistas of mountains, rockfaces, bays and seas of emerald.

From Monterosso to Sestri Levante we will cycle a number of easy ascents and gentle descents through tiny quaint villages. We’ll stop to sample scrumptious focaccia di Recco along with other local delights.

Cycling again, we’ll ride roads that are flat along magnificent coastline to the Santa Margherita Ligure area. Some more gentle rides up and down and we will arrive at Santa Margherita, a premium tourist area renowned for its pretty harbour and colourfully painted homes lining the seafront. We’ll then dine with the locals at the town’s best restaurant.

We’ll start by cycling through the charming small villages dotting the marvelous Ligurian coastline that views the Appennines. We’ll go through Chiavari and Sestri Levante, famous for its tranquil Silent Bay, and the pretty Bay of Fairy Tales.

Onwards we’ll cycle quiet roads to the wilderness going through Casarza Ligure. The treat of the unique natural overview will be experienced as we discover Passo Bracco.
Descending this immense panorama we’ll come across some charming medieval villages such as Borghetto where the Accola Santuary will move us.

There will we lunch and then we continue our route along rows of vineyeards and olive trees until we reach La Spezia. Here we’ll meander its interesting and winding streets. Then at our hotel we will enjoy a soothing post-ride massage prior to another evening of authentic Ligurian cuisine.
