Amalfi Coast Bike Tour – Overview

On this amazing cycling tour, we’ll lose ourselves in the distinctictive natural landscape around us. We’ll cycle amidst lemon trees and olive groves lining the striking rocky coastline dotted with medieval villages with their longstanding authentic character.
During this cycling holiday we’ll sample appetizing local home-cooked dishes and delicious wines at our best-liked country residences and at high quality restaurants along the way.

We’ll cycle with Maurizio Fondriest, previous World Champion, around Scalea and participate in the Granfondo Terùn as a professional team. In addition, we’ll have ample time to repose and recharge in fetching locations.

Welcome to your Chronoplus cylcing experience! You will be greeted by our team at Naples International Airport and transported to your Sorrento accommodation.

After a reception lunch during which you’ll be introduced to delicious local dishes like spaghetti alla colatura di alici (anchovy sauce), Ndunderi di  Minori and delizia al limone, we will prepare our bikes for an opening bike trip or “sgambatella” – an Italian colloquialism – to ready our legs for the days ahead.

From Sorrento, we’ll quickly arrive at areas known to be some of the most spectacularly beautiful in the world. We will cycle through gorgeous countryside with scatterings of historic towns and tiny hamlets with amazing coastal views lined with lemon trees.

We’ll pause to savour appetizing local delights at one of the area’s well-known eateries. Returning to the hotel we will prepare for a gourmet meal at one of Sorrento’s premier restaurants.

Today we head to Paestum, we’ll ride through lemon and olive trees along the remarkable rocky coastline lined with quaint villages where we’ll stand in awe at the vision of the famous Faraglioni of Capri.

We’ll cycle on pretty seaside roads riding through charming towns like Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, where we can pause to view the stunning vistas of sapphire ocean between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. Here we’ll visit Fiorentino, a well known pastry shop, for a welcome coffee and a special sfogliatella “La Santa Rosa”.

We’ll ride on to the magnificent village of Positano, another of the world’s most beautiful sights. We’ll continue across Salerno to Eboli where we’ll visit a local caseificio (cheese factory) to taste the world famous mozzarella di bufala cheese.

Cycling on we’ll pedal to the mythical village of Paestum 20 km beyond. Here we will spend time relaxing at our hotel and visiting the incredible and amazingly preserved Greek temples. We will then dine in town at our best-loved restaurant.

A nutritious breakfast will ready us for another beautiful cycling tour. We’ll cycle up a number of easy ascents and smooth downhills leading us to charming Castellabate, a village in the national reservation of Cilento which entered onto, in 1998, UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Here we’ll pause at a hidden panoramic stop to marvel at the stunning neverending vistas of the emerald waters and little charming islands.

We’ll exit the park cycling through the fishing village of Ogliastro Marina, then two easy climbs and a downhill via a spectacular landscape leading us to Palinuro, an Amalfi coast gem. Here we’ll ascend to a spot to view the remarkable vistas of the boundless blue oceans, photograph the views and and pay the lighthouse a visit, Italy’s second highest lighthouse.

We will complete the day with a traditional meal looking over the sea from a beautiful garden.

After eating a local breakfast, we’ll head out to experince another amazing journey taking on the tour’s most challenging bike trip. We’ll cycle a series of easy uphills and downhills viewing stunning scenery of emerald ocean and beautiful villages and towns like Marina di Camerota, before coming to Sapri where we’ll take a snack.

Then we’ll head upwards for 20 km to the wilderness along magical and tranquil roads submerged in Mediterranean vegetation, going through Casaletto Spartano, Caselle in Pittari and other charming villages. After an envigorating descent and a flat 10 km, we’ll arrive at Padula where we’ll be stunned by its ancient Certosa close to our hotel. An authentic specialità will then be had at restaurant, another of our favourites.

Post breakfast we’ll prepare for a testing cycling day.
We will begin on tranquil off track roads, after a progressive 10 km climb we will arrive at Montesano sulla Marcellana where we’ll be stunned by the Sant’Anna church, an grand gothic cathedral. We’ll pedal for 30 km uphill and downhill through green land, and wild meadows – the only sounds being birdsong and our bikes.

We’lll arrive at Sirino lake and stop to take in a local lunch. Afterwards we’ll take a thrilling ride downhill and then upwards on a quiet ride to Trecchina, a small ancient hilltop hamlet. Continuing downhill along a trafficless road we’ll arrive back at the coast before the final climb to the Cristo di Maratea, a stunning spot to take in the amazing sea views.

At this point you can choose to take the van to the hotel or take another 30km seaview ride. After a well-earned repose at our Scalea hotel, we’ll prepare for a scrumptious home-cooked dinner.

“As the previous days were challenging, we’ll dedicate the remaining 2 days to relaxation and preparation for the unique Granfondo Terùn cycle event.
You can choose to rest up at our hotel enjoying the spectacular sea views, or cycle with our staff and Maurizio Fondriest and the Terùn team around Scalea, visiting major landmarks and enoying traditional dining experiences.

Riding with Maurizio Fondriest will be a once in a lifetime experience making this riding tour even more unforgettable.”

“Post our cyclist’s breakfast, we’ll be in good standing for the Granfondo. We’ll participate as a team assisted by ChronoPlus staff with support car, escort mechanic, additional wheels, cycling nutrition and whatever else needed, just like pro cyclists.

This day’s riding efforts will earn us a post-cycle massage by a professional therapist and we’ll salute the cycling holiday’s end with a remarkable farewell dinner of local delicacies. “

After our last breakfast, our guides will say their farewells before delivering you to your leaving point for your onward journey.
